Making chronic pain data visible to patients and clinicians

    PainC preview

    Introduction

People living with chronic pain were asked to sit at a computer and fill out a long form. Most of them stopped. PainC needed a way to log pain in a few seconds, on a phone, on a hard day.

    The Challenge

Chronic pain patients are already exhausted. Asking them to sit at a computer and fill out detailed health forms every week was a losing battle. Completion rates were below 40%. The data doctors received was stale by the time they read it. PainC needed a mobile-first solution that patients could use in 30 seconds, even when their pain was at its worst, which often meant trembling hands, foggy thinking, and zero patience for complex interfaces.

    Our Solution

We built a HIPAA-compliant mobile application designed around the reality of chronic pain

One-tap pain logging: patients could record their pain level with a single thumb tap, adding detail only when they felt up to it.
Medication reminders: gentle notifications that adapted to the patient's actual schedule, not arbitrary clock times.
Trend dashboards: visual charts that showed pain patterns over weeks and months, helping both patients and doctors spot triggers.
Doctor-facing CMS: a web dashboard where care teams could monitor patient progress, flag concerns, and adjust treatment plans.
Encrypted data pipeline: every piece of health data encrypted at rest and in transit, meeting HIPAA requirements without making patients think about security.

    The Roadmap

Building a strong brand involves moving through defined stages.

    01.

    Research

We studied pain management best practices and user needs to inform the app's features and UX.

    02.

    Architecture

We designed a secure, scalable system with HIPAA compliance at its core.

    03.

    Design

We created an intuitive interface that makes tracking pain levels and accessing resources effortlessly.

    04.

    Development

We built native-quality mobile apps for iOS and Android with a robust CMS for healthcare providers.

    User Experience

The app features simple daily tracking, visual progress charts, and curated exercises, all designed to reduce friction for users dealing with pain.

    Backend CMS

Healthcare providers can monitor patient progress, adjust care plans, and communicate through a secure, intuitive CMS.

    Key Outcomes

Logging completion rose from 40% to 87%, and patient satisfaction rose 52%.
Care teams now see patterns between visits, instead of a weekly form that is already out of date.

Shreeram and his team truly understood my goal for PainC, an app designed for self-diagnosis and pain management. Many of our patients struggled to visit the hospital during the pandemic, which is where this idea began. Shreeram's healthcare expertise helped us build the project quickly and efficiently. The output was amazing; our patients find the app very helpful, and without the Peacock team, this would not have been possible.
