Brand Identity Design: Logo, Colour, Typography, and Guidelines

A brand identity system defines how a business appears and communicates across touchpoints. It includes a logo and variants, colour palette, typography, imagery, and rules for using them. A useful handoff also provides editable assets, examples, and templates so the team can apply the identity consistently.

What belongs in a logo package?

Include the primary mark, approved alternatives, monochrome versions, minimum size, clear space, and examples of incorrect use. Supply suitable vector files for production and raster exports for everyday use. Label the files so a team member can choose the right version.

    How should you document colour?

List the primary and supporting colours, their intended roles, and approved combinations. Record digital and print values as required by the project. For digital interfaces, check text and controls against WCAG contrast requirements; a brand palette alone does not establish accessibility.

    What should typography guidelines specify?

Specify font families, permitted weights, heading and body roles, fallbacks, and licensing. Show actual examples for a page, a presentation, and other important touchpoints. Test the scripts and languages the business uses before approving the system.

How do imagery and templates support the system?

Define photography, illustration, and icon styles with examples. Create templates for the assets the team uses frequently, such as presentations, social posts, and documents. Identify what can change and what should remain consistent.

What should the final guidelines contain?

Combine usage rules, examples, asset locations, and a named owner for updates. A handoff review should let the team create a real asset using the files without the designer's help. Our branding service covers strategy, identity, guidelines, and rollout assets.
